Learn to draw a variety of animals in this 6 week class taught by award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna. Using unique methods to simplify the forms, Scott will help students create lovely images as they discover facts about the anatomy of many different types of animals. In class, students will watch drawing demonstrations &follow along drawing different animals each week. Attention will be given to different textures such as fur feathers & scales. Students will draw in a sketchbook to practice & record their progress. Bring to first class: a drawing sketch pad and pencils.

6 weeks $240        age 13-adult
         Instructor: Scott Hanna

The artistic study of human anatomy is one of the foundation classes required in all design schools. This 6 week class taught by award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna, teaches you basic anatomy in the actual human proportion and discusses the differences in the "heroic" proportion. In class, you'll work with hand-outs from artistic anatomy text books, receive drawing demonstrations & lectures and study replica skeletal forms. Students will keep a class sketchbook to practice their drawing & record their progress. Bring to first class: an 11"x17" or larger drawing sketch pad and a 4B drawing pencil.

for Comics


Tuesdays, July 14-Aug 18  4:30-6:30pm     "PENCILING FOR COMICS"
Class cost: $240 for 6 weeks   Students age 13-adult   Instructor: Scott Hanna

Penciling for Comics is both an art and a detailed craft. The penciler works from a script to tell a visual story. They are responsible for telling the story clearly with images. In this class you will learn to create a mood & atmosphere which complement the story, delineate action, invent new environments, render dramatic poses, use proper foreshortening, show lighting, textures, and emotional nuances. At the end of the class, students will have a better understanding of the world of the creative penciler. Bring to first class: pencils, erasers, sketch pad 11x14 or larger.

CAMP

Mon-Thurs   July 20-23    11am-1pm    Arwyn's Amazing Animé Camp
4 classes/$160     age 12-18     Instructor: Scott Hanna

Last summer a great aspiring artist asked us to design a one week camp for fun & in-depth animé study. It was such a hit with students that we decided to name this year's animé camp after her! In this new camp, students will study several animé & manga styles, learn to draw a number of different types of characters, discover the differences & similarities between male & female figures, and even animals so they can confidently create their own stories. Students will view award-winning animation to inspire their creativity and develop their critical eye for style, composition & story-telling elements. They'll start with black and white and before the week is out, they'll be working in color! This camp's instructor is award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna who draws & creates exciting artwork for the two biggest comic/graphic novel companies in the US. A good starting place for students interested in a future in animé, manga & cartooning, animation, video game design, storyboard design, comics & graphic novels. Students will end the course with an understanding of the basics of anime cartooning! ALL supplies are provided in class.

Tuesdays, June 2-Aug 18    7-9pm     "SEQUENTIAL ART"

Cost: $480 for 12 weeks    Students 13-adult    Instructor: Scott Hanna

Learn to draw comic stories & discover the techniques of sequential story telling. This 12 week class, taught by award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna, teaches how to work from a script, design & compose pages, & shows multiple ways to create visual impact & drama! A good starting place for students interested in a future in storyboard design, cartooning, animation, game design, comics & graphic novels. Students will end the course with a short visual story sequence working from a real professional script!  
Bring to first class:
an 11x17 or larger drawing pad & drawing pencils. Students may be added to class roster on first class day or after with permission of instructor.

Once or twice a month, AFI™ hosts figure drawing sessions. Pro models provide variety & challenge to your portfolio. Our figure drawing sessions can feature multiple 20-30 minute poses for sketching or one long classic pose. Artists are welcome to draw or paint. 6 weeks $240                       age 13-adult
         Instructor: Scott Hanna

In this class, students learn to mix media in a single illustration. Starting with a light pencil sketch on watercolor paper of a person, animal or still life, students will learn to depict light, shadow & form, work on color mixing & combining and end with a finished work of art. Students will start with small samples in the first session to get familiar with the handling of the tools & mediums. Scott will demonstrate ink work with both brush & pen and students will use either or both in their work. Each week, students will watch additional demonstrations by master illustrator Scott Hanna and learn more techniques to add to their skill sets helping them create their own unique finished works.
Bring to first class: drawing pencils, black drawing ink & quill pens, assorted round (soft-tip) watercolor brushes, any type/brand of watercolor paints, watercolor paper or block, paint tray/palette. Additional supplies (including rare antique pen points & unusual fine art papers) will be available for purchase in class.

Learn how to draw cartoon & anime art, design fantastic original characters, and create great story-telling with award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna. You'll also learn how to create expressive faces & bodies, how to show movement in a pose and interactions between characters! A good starting place for students interested in a future in storyboard design, cartooning, animation, video game design, comics & graphic novels. Students will end the course with an understanding of the basics of anime cartooning! ALL supplies are provided in class.

The best animation is built on a solid understanding of fine art drawing plus human & animal anatomy. Aspiring animators select from a wide variety of key departments & specialties such as layout, character animation, surfacing, modeling, effects, matte painting, etc. This six week class, taught by award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna, will introduce students to some of the fundamental drawing skills used by the greatest animators in the world.  A good starting place for students interested in a future in animation, cartooning, video game design, comics, manga, graphic novels & storyboard design.

REGISTRATION INFO

Early registration is recommended as classes have limited enrollment. Registration for Scott Hanna's or Pamela Ptak's classes may be accepted on 1st class day or early in the term if the class is not full. All other classes & workshops require advanced registration. Registration is accepted through the mail or in person accompanied by a check for cost of class.

TUITION PAYMENT POLICY
Tuition & set kit fees must be paid upon registration. Tuition may be paid in cash (in person only) or by check. Students wishing a receipt must provide a stamped, self addressed envelope with payment. There is a $25 cancellation fee. Refunds will be made for classes cancelled 5 days or more before class starts minus the $25 cancellation fee. There will be no refund made for absences or for classes cancelled due to inclement weather. Instructors can not make up classes missed because of student absences. The Arts and Fashion Institute reserves the right to change or substitute instructors or discontinue any class without incurring liability or obligation.

CLASSROOM POLICY
Registered students and the instructor are the only individuals permitted in the classrooms during class time. Other individuals, including family members, friends and students not registered for the scheduled class are not allowed in the rooms unless they have the permission from the school administration & the instructor and are identified with a visitor's guest badge. Students are not permitted to photograph, video tape, audiotape, or record the lessons without written permission from the school's directors.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO POLICY
The Arts and Fashion Institute™ reserves the right to use photographs or video taken during classes and other programs for the promotion of the school & its instructors. Any student, parent or guardian who does not wish to be photographed or have a child photographed must notify the Arts and Fashion Institute upon registration.
