Class Cost: $240               Students 8-12          Instructor: Scott Hanna


Learn how to draw cartoon & anime art, design fantastic original characters, and create great story-telling with award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna. You'll also learn how to create expressive faces & bodies, how to show movement in a pose and interactions between characters! A good starting place for students interested in a future in storyboard design, cartooning, animation, video game design, comics & graphic novels. Students will end the course with an understanding of the basics of anime cartooning! ALL supplies are provided in class.

Tuesday, Sept 9-Oct 14  7-9pm  "PENCILING FOR COMICS"
Class cost: $240 for 6 weeks   Students age 13-adult   Instructor: Scott Hanna

Penciling for Comics is both an art and a detailed craft. The penciler works from a script to tell a visual story. They are responsible for telling the story clearly with images. In this class you will learn to create a mood & atmosphere which complement the story, delineate action, invent new environments, render dramatic poses, use proper foreshortening, show lighting, textures, and emotional nuances. At the end of the class, students will have a better understanding of the world of the creative penciler.

Bring to first class: pencils, erasers, sketch pad 11x14 or larger.

Cost: $480 for 12 weeks    Students 13-adult    Instructor: Scott Hanna

Learn to draw comic stories & discover the techniques of sequential story telling. This 12 week class, taught by award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna, teaches how to work from a script, design & compose pages, & shows multiple ways to create visual impact & drama! A good starting place for students interested in a future in storyboard design, cartooning, animation, game design, comics & graphic novels. Students will end the course with a short visual story sequence working from a real professional script!  
Bring to first class
an 11x17 or larger drawing pad & drawing pencils. Students may be added to class roster on first class day or after with permission of instructor.

"FINE ART DRAWING" 
 2 hr class/6 weeks $240  age 13-adult
  Instructor: Scott Hanna

Working with pencil & charcoal on paper, students will draw a new still life each week while learning about composition, perspective, proportion, form, light & shadow, creating portfolio pieces as they improve their handling of the drawing medium.  Bring to first class an 11x17 or larger  drawing pad and an assortment of drawing pencils.

"ARTISTIC ANATOMY"  2 hr class/6 weeks $240  age 13-adult
  Instructor: Scott Hanna

The artistic study of human anatomy is one of the foundation classes required in all design schools. This 6 week class taught by award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna, teaches you basic anatomy in the actual human proportion and discusses the differences in the "heroic" proportion. In class, you'll work with hand-outs from artistic anatomy text books, receive drawing demonstrations & lectures and study replica skeletal forms. Students will keep a class sketchbook to practice their drawing & record their progress. Bring to first class an 11"x17" or larger drawing sketch pad and a 4B drawing pencil.

"INTRO to INKING" 2 hr class/6 weeks $240  age 13-adult

Introduces serious art students to drawing with pen, brush & ink on paper. Award-winning artist Scott HannaWork with a variety of inking tools and learn to add incredible mood & drama to your art.

The best animation is built on a solid understanding of fine art drawing plus human & animal anatomy. Aspiring animators select from a wide variety of key departments & specialties such as layout, character animation, surfacing, modeling, effects, matte painting, etc. This six week class, taught by award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna, will introduce students to some of the fundamental drawing skills used by the greatest animators in the world.  A good starting place for students interested in a future in animation, cartooning, video game design, comics, manga, graphic novels & storyboard design.

Fridays  7pm-10pm  "FIGURE DRAWING FRIDAYS"  

$10/night - age 18-adult  

Once a month, AFI™ hosts figure drawing sessions. Pro models provide variety & challenge to your portfolio. Our figure drawing sessions can feature multiple 20-30 minute poses for sketching or one long classic pose. Artists are welcome to draw or paint. See detailed list or Facebook invitation posts for exact details. Artists under 18 are admitted with parental consent.

REGISTRATION INFO

Early registration is recommended as classes have limited enrollment. Registration for Scott Hanna's or Pamela Ptak's classes may be accepted on 1st class day or early in the term if the class is not full. All other classes & workshops require advanced registration. Registration is accepted through the mail or in person accompanied by a check for cost of class. A registration form can be downloaded here... 

TUITION PAYMENT POLICY
Tuition & set kit fees must be paid upon registration. Tuition may be paid in cash (in person only) or by check. Students wishing a receipt must provide a stamped, self addressed envelope with payment. There is a $25 cancellation fee. Refunds will be made for classes cancelled 5 days or more before class starts minus the $25 cancellation fee. There will be no refund made for absences or for classes cancelled due to inclement weather. Instructors can not make up classes missed because of student absences. The Arts and Fashion Institute reserves the right to change or substitute instructors or discontinue any class without incurring liability or obligation.

CLASSROOM POLICY
Registered students and the instructor are the only individuals permitted in the classrooms during class time. Other individuals, including family members, friends and students not registered for the scheduled class are not allowed in the rooms unless they have the permission from the school administration & the instructor and are identified with a visitor's guest badge.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO POLICY
The Arts and Fashion Institute™ reserves the right to use photographs or video taken during classes and other programs for the promotion of the school & its instructors. Any student, parent or guardian who does not wish to be photographed or have a child photographed must notify the Arts and Fashion Institute upon registration.
