Discover the fun of designing your own fantastic original characters and creating great story-telling with award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna. You'll also learn how to create expressive faces & bodies, how to show movement in a pose and interactions between characters! A good starting place for students interested in a future in storyboard design, cartooning, animation, video game design, comics & graphic novels. Students will end the course with an understanding of the basics of cartooning and animé!
Bring to first class: an 11x17 or larger drawing pad & drawing pencils. Students may be added to class roster on first class day or after with permission of instructor.
This class skips Dec 26. Snow days could shift back final class past Jan 9.

$480 for 12 weeks      Students 13-adult       Instructor: Scott Hanna

Learn to draw comic stories & discover the techniques of sequential story telling. This 12 week class, taught by award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna, teaches how to work from a script, design & compose pages & shows multiple ways to create visual impact & drama! A good starting place for students interested in a future in storyboard design, cartooning, animation, game design, comics & graphic novels. Students will end the course with a short visual story sequence working from a real professional script!  
Bring to first class:
an 11x17 or larger drawing pad & drawing pencils. Students may be added to class roster on first class day or after with permission of instructor.

Working with pencil & charcoal on paper, students will draw a new still life each week while learning about composition, perspective, proportion, form, light & shadow, creating portfolio pieces as they improve their handling of the drawing medium.

$240 for 6 weeks           age 13-adult
            Instructor: Scott Hanna

The artistic study of human anatomy is one of the foundation classes required in all design schools. This 6 week class taught by award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna, teaches you basic anatomy in the actual human proportion and discusses the differences in the "heroic" proportion. In class, you'll work with hand-outs from artistic anatomy text books, receive drawing demonstrations & lectures and study replica skeletal forms. Students will keep a class sketchbook to practice their drawing & record their progress. Bring to first class: an 11"x17" or larger drawing sketch pad and a 4B drawing pencil.

Spring 2018 - "ANIMAL ANATOMY"     age 13-adult
           Instructor: Scott Hanna

The artistic study of animal anatomy gives an art student a much deeper understanding of organic 3D form, relationship & movement and can offer rich detail to artistic compositions. This 6 week class taught by award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna, teaches you basic anatomy in the actual animal proportion, covering a new species each week and discussing the differences and similarities between the different animal forms. In class, you'll work with hand-outs from artistic anatomy text books, receive drawing demonstrations & lectures and study 3D skeletal forms. Drawings will cover both skeletal and muscular structures. Students will keep a class sketchbook to practice their drawing & record their progress. Spring 2018  -  "Drawing Animals"              Instructor: Scott Hanna

Learn to draw a variety of animals in this 6 week class taught by award winning illustrator & comic artist Scott Hanna. Using unique methods to simplify the forms, Scott will help students create lovely images as they discover facts about the anatomy of many different types of animals. In class, students will watch drawing demonstrations &follow along drawing different animals each week. Attention will be given to different textures such as fur feathers & scales. Students will draw in a sketchbook to practice & record their progress. Bring to first class: a drawing sketch pad and pencils.

Once or twice a month, AFI™ hosts figure drawing sessions. Pro models provide variety & challenge to your portfolio. Our figure drawing sessions can feature multiple 20-30 minute poses for sketching or one long classic pose. Artists are welcome to draw or paint. Then award winning artist Scott Hanna, who's worked on nearly every character in the Marvel & DC Comics universes, will teach you their specific proportions, details of their faces & bodies, how they move, pose and interact! A good starting place for students wishing a future in storyboard design, cartooning, animation, video game design, comics & graphic novels. "DRAWING FACES & EXPRESSIONS" 
 Students 13-adult   Instructor: Scott Hanna

The human face can express a myriad of moods with very subtle muscle changes. To communicate well with your story telling art, you must be able to differentiate these expressions clearly while maintaining the person's facial characteristics.  In this class, both fine artists and sequential artists will learn how to capture expressions with their line work.
Bring to first class: drawing pencils, conte crayons, regular & kneaded rubber erasers, sketch pad 11x14 or larger.

REGISTRATION INFO

Early registration is recommended as classes have limited enrollment. Registration for Scott Hanna's or Pamela Ptak's classes may be accepted on 1st class day or early in the term if the class is not full. All other classes & workshops require advanced registration. Registration is accepted through the mail or in person accompanied by a check for cost of class.

TUITION PAYMENT POLICY
Tuition & set kit fees must be paid upon registration. Tuition may be paid in cash (in person only) or by check. Students wishing a receipt must provide a stamped, self addressed envelope with payment. There is a $25 cancellation fee. Refunds will be made for classes cancelled 5 days or more before class starts minus the $25 cancellation fee. There will be no refund made for absences or for classes cancelled due to inclement weather. Instructors can not make up classes missed because of student absences. The Arts and Fashion Institute reserves the right to change or substitute instructors or discontinue any class without incurring liability or obligation.

CLASSROOM POLICY
Registered students and the instructor are the only individuals permitted in the classrooms during class time. Other individuals, including family members, friends and students not registered for the scheduled class are not allowed in the rooms unless they have the permission from the school administration & the instructor and are identified with a visitor's guest badge. Students are not permitted to photograph, video tape, audiotape, or record the lessons without written permission from the school's directors.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO POLICY
The Arts and Fashion Institute™ reserves the right to use photographs or video taken during classes and other programs for the promotion of the school & its instructors. Any student, parent or guardian who does not wish to be photographed or have a child photographed must notify the Arts and Fashion Institute upon registration.
