Mon, Oct 5 - Jan 11  1-4 pm (36 hours)  "Couture Garment Fitting" - 3 credit
Cost: $975 for 12 weeks            Instructor: Pamela Ptak
Continuing ed class in Fashion Design Intensive Program

Fine garments in the haute couture, in both the “flou” (dressmaking) and “tailleur” (tailoring) ateliers are designed with passion and meticulously crafted as a couturier’s work of art. The successful presentation of haute couture garments depends heavily on the perfection of fit to the model or customer.

In this class on Couture Garment Fitting students will discover the master theories of form & fit which guide the choices of the couturier. Each week students will study masterpieces of construction from top international designers (Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Chanel, McQueen, etc.) and watch instructor demonstrations of fitting solutions pinned, marked & sewn on industry garment samples. Then students will be led through their own fitting & alterations on a number of garments they provide to test the theories & master the techniques for themselves.  Each student will be required to bring at least 6 garments to alter during the semester following the categories & requirements provided by instructor during the semester. While this class features garments at the haute couture level, it is also applicable to a student wishing to specialize in fine alterations.

Bring to first class: Notebook & no. 2 pencils, tape measure, 18 inch C-Thru ruler, pins, non-wax chalk in assorted colors, sharp sewing scissors, small snips or thread cutters. Additional supplies & tools will be shared or demonstrated in class.

PERFECT
MOULAGE
PLASTIC WRAP
DRESSFORM

workshops & by appointment  “PERFECT MOULAGE” DRESSFORM
Cost: $80/person             Instructor: Pamela Ptak

Working with clear plastic wrap, clear packing tape and markers, each student will have their body copied over in plastic and then marked by the instructor with the ideal placement for centers, princess seams, waist, hip & apex levels, etc. These plastic wrap forms are highly accurate and working with them you will achieve design results equal to working with the original cloth French moulage. Because the plastic version holds its 3 dimensional shape, it can be removed from your standard dress form and stored on a closet shelf when not in use.

BRING TO CLASS: two rolls of plastic wrap and two big rolls of clear packing tape. Students should wear bra & undergarments which position your body in your selected silhouette for designing garments. Wear or bring to class a snug fitting top & leggings so that we are not wrapping the plastic directly against your skin.
This workshop meets at Pamela's Studio - 595 Summit lane, Riegelsville, PA 18077
