FASHION DESIGN INTENSIVE PROGRAM   Year 1: Semester 1:
13 classes includes final test/critique. Closed Memorial Day May 25.

Monday, Mar 2-Jun 8  9am-12  "Draping Wovens 1" - 3 credit
Cost: $975 for 13 weeks    Instructor: Pamela Ptak

Draping with muslin on a dress form, fashion designers create 3 dimensional garments with beautiful lines, fine fit, perfect proportion and smart details. Learning to visualize and "sculpt" a garment in 3 dimensions is an essential skill for a designer intent on creating unique and original work. Starting with basic bodices, skirts and dresses, students learn to drape every element used to create five of the most popular and successful silhouettes in fashion history. Each element is a required building block in fashion design and once understood, each can later be re-conceptualized in a myriad of ways to create an endless array of beautiful garments.
Bring to first class: Notebook & no. 2 pencils. tape measure, sharp sewing scissors, 18 inch c-thru ruler. Additional supply list will be handed out in 1st class.

Working with industry slopers (patterns used for standard garment fit) students will make their own set of industry slopers and use them through the semester to learn a wide range of techniques used in women's blouses, tops, skirts and dresses. For each lesson, students start with a simple sketch, interpret the sketch in a pattern draft & create the pattern pieces. Garment details covered in Pattern Making 1 include necklines, collars, facings, button & zipper openings, sleeves with vents & cuffs, dart manipulation, gathers, tucks, shoulder & hip yokes and midriff panels. Students will learn to true-in and perfect their patterns and add seam allowances, hems & notches. Final semester project is a garment design including sketch, original draft, full pattern set & sewn "fit muslin" garment created by each student & presented to instructor and class.
Bring to first class: notebook & no. 2 pencils. Supply list is available at 1st class.

PERFECT
MOULAGE
PLASTIC WRAP
DRESSFORM

workshops & by appointment  “PERFECT MOULAGE” DRESSFORM
Cost: $80/person             Instructor: Pamela Ptak

Working with clear plastic wrap, clear packing tape and markers, each student will have their body copied over in plastic and then marked by the instructor with the ideal placement for centers, princess seams, waist, hip & apex levels, etc. These plastic wrap forms are highly accurate and working with them you will achieve design results equal to working with the original cloth French moulage. Because the plastic version holds its 3 dimensional shape, it can be removed from your standard dress form and stored on a closet shelf when not in use.

BRING TO CLASS: two rolls of plastic wrap and two big rolls of clear packing tape. Students should wear bra & undergarments which position your body in your selected silhouette for designing garments. Wear or bring to class a snug fitting top & leggings so that we are not wrapping the plastic directly against your skin.
This workshop meets at Pamela's Studio - 595 Summit lane, Riegelsville, PA 18077
